Bruce Lipton's The Biology of Belief

New sciences like Epigenetics is an amazing discovery in the field of medicine. For years, scientists assumed that cancer was caused by irreversible damage to some genes in our body. But in the last few years, a much more complex picture has emerged. It shows that some cancers are caused by epigenetic changes—tiny chemical tags that accumulate over time and can turn genes on or off. Unlike genetic damage, epigenetic changes can sometimes be reversed, and with treatments that are far less toxic to the patient.

Genetics may tell us that we are at high risk for certain types of diseases. However, with epigenetics scientists have discovered that this need not be true. We inherit genes, however what we eat, drink, think, feel and how we live life has an impact on the chemical tags that can turn a gene on or off. Check out this illuminating PBS video on Epigenetics.

I am a believer of the mind/body connection and the world of alternative and complementary medicine. The belief that your mind plays an important part in the overall welfare of your entire being and that sickness is not related to just one body part. Over the years, I have read many books on these topics. This book shows you how all that "woo woo" stuff relates to science.

Author Dr. Bruce Lipton is a former medical school professor and research scientist. His experiments have examined in great detail the processes by which cells receive information. The implications of this research radically change our understanding of life. It shows that genes and DNA do not control our biology; that instead DNA is controlled by signals from outside the cell, including the messages emanating from our positive and negative thoughts. Dr. Lipton’s research is hailed as a major breakthrough showing that our bodies can be changed as we retrain our thinking.

If you are fascinated by the workings of the human body and mind, then this book is a must. And if you are a non-believer of the mind/body connection and think that it is all hokus pokus, then this book is for you too.Definitely a hopeful future for all us, as it relates to our health.

Here is a video on the same topic entitled "The Biology of Perception" by Bruce Lipton.
